Competition

Competition is a major and fun part of the barbershop world that helps keep us focused on raising the bar of performing excellence. We come together in a spirit of lighthearted contest, to see who's really got "top form"! We root for each other, cheer each other on, and, once the medals have been handed out, we sing and party into the night!

Regional

Every year in April or May, Spring Valley Chorus competes in our regional contest. Dozens of choruses and quartets come together to sing and compete. There are four judging categories judged by qualified Sweet Adelines judges who are flown in from all over the US and Canada to judge the two songs performed in the barbershop style by the quartets and choruses. Guidelines for competing at all levels are found at the Competition Handbook published by Sweet Adelines International. Scoresheets from past International contests are available for review online.

International

Sometime annually in the fall, the winners of all regional contests -- and a few "wildcards" -- gather together at the International Convention and Competition. In 2012, the International competition will be held in Denver, CO on Oct. 29th - Nov. 3rd. You can view the complete contest on a live webcast on the Sweet Adelines International website. This is the ultimate female barbershop competition -- not to be missed!
